Despite all of the effort men put forth in deciphering through countless thousands of affordable engagement rings, unique engagement rings and so forth, sometimes the engagement is a success but the engagement ring itself is a bust. It is interesting to point out that it is actually quite common for couples to begin looking at engagement rings together after the proposal. Sometimes this happens because engagement rings are a peculiar subject, and not always do people know exactly what type of engagement ring their significant other likes. And other times the reason is a simple miscalculation in how unique the recipient expects the engagement ring to be. And finally, we have seen situations where the engagement ring is simply priced higher than the bride would like it to be, which is especially common for couples who live together prior to the engagement. In these situations couples usually begin to browse more affordable engagement rings to find a better fit for their existing budget. In this issue of DT Era we go through a few possible scenarios to help alleviate some of the most common concerns relating to an unsuccessful first engagement ring endeavor.
We start with perhaps the most common reason why the first engagement ring is a bust – the ring is too generic and offers no edge. Let’s face it, when you walk into your local engagement ring store, in most cases it does not overwhelm you with unique engagement rings. Instead you find something along the lines of the diamond engagement ring pictured above. This engagement ring is pretty indeed, with a 14 karat yellow gold shank and a generous one carat in total diamond weight. However, this diamond engagement ring is far from overwhelming when it comes to class and style. In fact, the engagement ring design is relatively linear, featuring three rows of round cut side diamonds, three round accent stones per side and the round cut center diamond. This engagement ring is listed at an impressive price of only $1,999, but it leaves the aesthetic pallet unfulfilled.
We move on to another common engagement ring design that you may find at your average local engagement ring store. The 14k white gold shank offers a little more in terms of design, but the overall concept is relatively similar – lots of diamonds, including side stones, accent stones and the center diamond. Will this diamond engagement ring elicit overwhelming emotions from your significant other? In addition, because this diamond engagement ring features a 4/5 carat round cut center diamond and 1 1/3 carats in total diamond weight, it is priced at over $4,000. While this price is competitive, given the diamond weight and 14k gold stamp, for some couples it is still far too high. It is time to start considering some more affordable engagement rings and unique engagement rings, or even Italian engagement rings, hoping to find a ring that is both, unique and affordable at the same time.
We already have a large database of information on both unique engagement rings and cheap engagement rings, so there is no need for a repeat. However, the three things to watch out for when giving the engagement ring search a second try are more curves and/or sharp edges, less symmetry and a healthy diamond ratio. Remember, more diamonds does not always guarantee a more beautiful engagement ring. Note that each of the three engagement rings pictured above is listed well below $1,000. The design of the engagement ring ultimately dictates people’s reaction to it, so make sure that the one you choose is pleasant to the eye in all aspects of the design.
